What Is the Fitch Fridge?

The Fitch Fridge is a free, community-powered refrigerator that provides fresh food to anyone who needs it—no questions asked. Located outside Longsjo Middle School in Fitchburg, the fridge is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making it easy for neighbors to give what they can and take what they need.

How It Works

The Fitch Fridge operates on a simple idea: take what you need, leave what you can. Community members, local businesses, farms, and organizations donate fresh produce, pantry staples, dairy products, frozen meals, and other approved food items. Volunteers regularly clean, organize, and inspect the fridge to ensure it remains safe, welcoming, and well-stocked.

There are no eligibility requirements, applications, or appointments. If you need food, it's here for you. If you'd like to help, you can donate food, volunteer your time, or make a financial contribution to support the program.

Food insecurity affects more people in our community than many realize. Families facing rising grocery costs, seniors on fixed incomes, students, and individuals experiencing unexpected hardships often need a little extra support.
